A WEBSITE WITH A COLLECTION OF BOUTIQUES

PROBLEM

Bali island in Indonesia has the biggest hub of digital nomads in the world.

Since most of the digital nomads don’t have an Indonesian bank account, it makes it difficult to do shopping through the biggest e-commerce shopping platforms.

The island is also one of the top spots in the world to build new business ventures in different industries such as clothing, food and fitness brands.

Business owners found it difficult to promote their brands.

PROJECT GOAL

Make an experience that helps consumers (buyers) to find desired products and business owners to promote their brands.

RESEARCH

I've started research from identifying the target audience, the demographic’s behavior, journey, and understanding the successes and failures of competitor products.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

A competitor analysis helped me benchmark my product against others in the market. And gave me a better understanding of the market, identifying opportunities to improve my product, and helped me make more informed decisions about how to position and market the product.

A radar chart is a good way to visualize and understand the competitive landscape in the market.

USER ANALISYS

The next step was to conduct interviews with participants about their shopping experiences on the island.

EMPATHY MAP

Created from interviews, research and observational analysis, the empathy map helped contextualize future users' encounters with the BaliBoutiquesSearch website.

COLLECTING THE DATA

I have used two methods to collect the data for my product.

First, I searched social media, mainly Instagram, filtering by location, and hashtags, then Instagram algorithms helped me with collecting the data by showing ads of related searches.

The second method I’ve used is simply driving through the main streets of the island and collecting the boutiques, or using a Google map to filter through the smaller street.

The first method helped me to collect not only physical locations but online boutiques as well.

I’ve used a Google sheet to organize my data by category.

USER FLOW MAP

A user flow shows the path a user will take on a website to complete a task.

My product's goal is to walk the user through available boutiques, add to favorites or view later listing, filter through categories using the menu or search feature. The final step is to redirect user to the vendor’s website or social media where user can explore the product with more details and buy a product.

BRAND EXPLORATION

With my final view of the website I wanted to achieve a modern look that brings feelings of a healthy active lifestyle combined with the Balinese Hinduism cultural elements.

UI KIT

I used mostly natural desaturated colors.  Combination of rounded shapes of the IU elements with the Outfit font family helped me to achieve the modern and friendly look.

BUILDING A WEBSITE

The secondary goal of this project was for me to learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Before that, I was familiar with basic HTML and CSS but wanted to dive into it deeper.

During the coding my main attesting was not only to create a functional website that will meet my main project goals but also to focus on creating reusable styling using variables, that will allow me to easier change the modes of the website

• Build a mobile-first responsive layouts

• Learn some basic component interactions.
